Journalist

Lecture

This ancient profession still attracts the opportunity to possess information, be popular, influence the minds of the masses, creatively self-actualize.

The journalist makes an opinion, makes comments, corrects something, extracts news, writes essays, reports, gives forecasts, reviews, edits.

Easy this profession can not be called. It dictates a special pace of life, forcing the journalist to obey the rhythm of publication or transmission. Journalists are expected to be prompt, objective, without imposing assessments, coverage of events, reliability of facts. And the search for truth has always been insecure.

In general, journalism is not just a profession, it is a vocation, it is a special world view and the most important among a group of events, to find an explanation for the facts, to clothe your thoughts in precise and understandable words.

Those who like this profession have the ability to: actively participate in public life; quickly switch from one job to another; observe the behavior and life of people; analyze phenomena and events.

Specialized professional training is received at the faculties of journalism (in Moscow, Moscow State University and MGIMO). After graduating from one of the departments, a graduate may engage in the following activities:

1. Freelance correspondent or "freelancer." This is an independent journalist, offering their materials to the publication. He lives on fees that he receives for publishing his works and reprinting them.

2. Own correspondent. Responsibility - collecting information, supplying fresh news. Must understand everything: from rallies to concerts.

3. Reporter. This is the author of "news" genres. Should be able to always be in the center of events.

4. Lead headings, i.e. A permanent section in a newspaper, magazine, radio, or television program.

5. Executive Secretary. It helps to coordinate the work of the departments, controls all the work on the issue of the new issue, starting with drawing up a preliminary plan of the number, before the layout and putting the layout in the printing house.

6. Chief Editor. He is responsible for the preparation of materials for printing and issue numbers. Only a bright personality can create a newspaper or magazine style.

In contrast to the freelance correspondent, a permanent employee of the newspaper receives a salary and a fee. However, after the crisis, fees in many newspapers have reduced or stopped paying altogether.

7. Not bad can earn a journalist who has found himself in advertising. A promising new direction that has emerged over the last decade is outdoor advertising (billboards, signboards, shop windows).

8. Work on radio and television involves writing scripts, voice acting texts, preparing their programs, going on the air. This broadcasting, DJs, announcers, sound engineers, observers, commentators.

9. “International affairs” has always been considered the journalistic elite and the requirements for them are still high: knowledge of several foreign languages, ability to have a good understanding of the history and culture of the country where they will work.

The salary of journalists, as can be seen from the above, will greatly depend on the place of his work. If this is a “free artist,” then his salary depends directly on how he “turns”. If this is a salary payment system, then it ranges from $ 100 to $ 1000 depending on the position held.
