Lie research

Lecture

The least noticeable lie in those areas of communication that can be controlled by a person, for example, in words. You can rehearse your deception in advance, and your words will sound quite convincing. In order to determine a lie, you need to pay attention to the gestures that a person makes automatically, since they are practically impossible to control. A lie is always accompanied by minor gestures, because the liar is in an excited emotional state.
Robert Feldman from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst analyzed the behavior of 121 couples during a conversation with third persons. One third of the experiment participants were asked to look attractive, the second third was competent, and the rest were allowed to be themselves. Then all the participants were invited to watch a video of their own behavior and reveal the lies they had said during the conversation. Sometimes this lie was completely white: people said that they liked someone who really didn't attract them at all. In other cases, the lie was more extreme: for example, someone said that he was the leader of the famous rock ensemble. As a result of the experiment, Feldman discovered that 62% of the participants every ten minutes lie two or three times. James Patterson, author of The Day When America Tells the Truth, interviewed 2,000 Americans and found that 92% of them lie regularly, both at home and at work.

"The best policy is to always tell the truth, unless, of course, you are an exceptionally good liar."
J. K. JEROM
