A side look is used to express interest, insecurity or hostility. When it is combined with a slightly raised eyebrow or smile, it expresses interest. Such a chain is often used by women in a courtship ritual. If the squint is accompanied by lowered or frowning eyebrows, lowered corners of the lips, it is a sign of suspicion, hostility or criticality.
