This chapter outlines the main stages and directions of studying speech activity in world science. The following historical analysis of the history of psycholinguistics mainly concerns the European region in recent times.

The study of historical sources gives full reason to say that even in ancient times, scientists expressed very interesting and productive ideas about the process of speech formation, and the first models of speech generation and perception [14] were proposed as early as the middle of the 19th century. At the beginning of the XX century. there is a real “flourishing” in the field of various speech sciences (psychology of speech, linguistics, practical linguistics, newly emerging speech therapy, etc.).

The concepts of speech as a mental process and a process of speech communication were formed in the depths of various sciences and therefore, naturally, they experienced the influence of philosophy, rhetoric, psychology, linguistics, neuropathology, etc.
