Homogamy

Lecture

Despite the fact that almost every culture prohibits incest and requires family exogamy, in the pl. subcultural groups prescribed endogamy as a means of preserving the integrity of their soc. organizations. This may explain the numerous evidence that most often selected partners of the same race, ethnic subgroup, the same socio-economic status and with the same level of education.
When a member from a group with a higher status chooses a partner with a lower social status, concessions are usually made for age and beautiful appearance, while within the strata men and women most often choose partners with age and appearance data that match their own. This is consistent with what Mershtein called the “exchange theory” (exchange theory) of choosing a spouse, according to which each future partner seeks to strengthen his social system. and psikhol. position the choice of the most suitable for their social. characteristics of the pair.
The fact that education and others. Social. the characteristics really predict V. p., can be explained by the fact that these factors affect the circle of potential partners, with whom each seeker will find his pair. This "proximity factor" in V. p. reflects the fact that segregation by place of residence and professional affiliation largely determines the availability of suitable partners, which will occur due to time, distance, cost and opportunity. The fact that religious integration exists at virtually every level of American society, can be explained by the fact that marriages between people of different faiths are quickly becoming the norm.
Not so noticeable similarity in values, attitudes and behavior, which we tend to look for in friends, also turns out to be an extremely valuable criterion when choosing a partner. The desire to choose as close friends those who share our system of views is undoubtedly a consequence of the ease in reaching agreement on the countless decisions that we have to make every day, as well as confirming our own convictions and actions. Therefore, it is not surprising that in many researches. it is recorded that couples are increasingly unanimous as they move from casual acquaintance to marriage.
Misconceptions in the alleged similarity are explained several. reasons. First, courtship is considered as a max period. mutual deception, since each side seeks to acquire the disposition of the other, trying to make the most favorable impression on it, often at the cost of honesty. In addition to the influence of these false data, the processes that the caring partners use to organize their impressions of others are more psychological than scientific-logical, and often lead to false conclusions.
V. p. is of great importance for the stability of the organizations and their subgroups, as well as for the long-term happiness of specific people. Soc. restrictions on the ability to meet future spouses and barriers to certain unions, regarded as reprehensible, are the tools by which macro-social organizations organize their control over whom and with whom to marry. Within the circle of eligible candidates, each person must decide on the criteria that he will apply for V. p., Must collect the data necessary to use each criterion, and must weigh each existing fact in the general decision-making matrix unfit".
