Children born or raised in families with alcoholic traditions are at greater risk of addiction to alcohol and other drugs. In this, their role, apparently, is played by both genetic factors and the influence of the immediate environment.

For example, boys born in the family of an alcoholic, even being raised in a family that adopted them, are at –4 times more likely to become alcoholics than boys born in normal families. Alcohol and drug use by parents and a positive attitude towards alcohol; in families where parents relax, use illegal drugs or drink a lot (not necessarily becoming alcoholics), there is a high probability that children will start drinking alcoholic beverages in their teens. If parents also encourage their children to use drugs, including, of course, alcohol, the risk increases. The more family members consume alcohol and drugs, the greater the risk.

It is obvious that in such families probably early introduction to alcohol. It entails a high probability that children will begin to experience alcohol or other addiction or they will have problems with alcohol abuse in adolescence or adulthood. Young people who start drinking before the age of 15 put themselves at twice the risk than those who are not in a hurry to try alcohol until they are nineteen.
The task of prevention in this case is the timely recognition of such families and the necessary social, psychological work with them, and in some cases partial or complete isolation of children from their parents, promoting the use of narcotic and alcoholic substances by children.
