Addition to the column

Lecture

To add large numbers that have more than two digits (characters), use the addition column. This method of addition will help to quickly solve the example and not make mistakes.

So, consider an example:

  Addition to the column
  • First, we write the numbers under each other so that the rightmost digit of the first number is under the rightmost digit of the second.

On the left between the numbers we put a sign of the action. This is a “+” (addition). Now the numbers are in a column, so this action is called addition to the column .
  Addition to the column
  • Fold one digit (sign) from right to left . The result is recorded under the line. 8 + 1 = 9
  Addition to the column
  • Now we put 4 with the eight. 4 + 8 = 12.

We got a number greater than 10, so under the numbers we write down only the last digit of the received number 12. This is 2. But we will not forget about ten either. Put over the neighbor to the left of 4 ones. That is over 7.
  Addition to the column
  • Recall that the unit over 7 means. The unit means that you must add 1 to 7 and then add it to 3. 7 + 1 = 8.

We add the resulting eight to 3. 8 + 3 = 11. Again, we get a number greater than 10, so we are doing the same as before. Now and over 6 will be edinichka.

    As a result, we obtain:

  Addition to the column

After all the actions in the column do not forget to write the answer to the original example.
