7 Basics of working with general purpose applications 7.1. Application Definition

Lecture

An application program is any specific program that contributes to solving a specific task within a given problem area. For example, if the computer is assigned the task of monitoring the financial activities of any company, the payroll program will be applied for this case. Some application programs are general in nature, that is, they provide for the preparation and printing of documents, etc.

In contrast, OS applications or software tools do not directly contribute to the satisfaction of the end user needs.

Application programs can be used either autonomously, i.e., to solve the set task without the help of other programs, or in the system of software packages or packages.
