Attributive Theories of Genius

Lecture

1. ATTRIBUTIVE THEORY OF GENIUS
1.1. Suprematic theory
Suprematic (from the Latin. Supremus - the highest) theory asserts that genius is characterized by phenomenal, extreme, extreme level of development of abilities. At the same time, genius is explained by domination, extraordinary development by one of the qualities or mental traits of a personality: “exceptional intuition”, “powerful imagination”, “intellectual power”, “passionate sensitivity” and “great passion”, “extraordinary strong will”, “unsurpassed skill” and competence "(J.Gowan, J.M. Eisenstadt).
At the same time, a genius characterizes a complex of such qualities as the pronounced ability of fantasy, fiction; exceptional involuntary observation; deviation from the pattern, originality, subjectivity; vastness of knowledge, observations; the gift of intuition, foreboding, divination (B.A. Lezin).
Numerous definitions of genius, which emphasize the importance of one of the traits and qualities of a genius, can be conditionally organized with the help of the “Original Pentabase”, which reflects the structure of the spirit, creative consciousness and mental life.
Such a universal pentabase is a matrix consisting of two interconnected pairs of primary essences Interaction - Whole (Being) and Possibility - Freedom (Nothing), which are combined, mutually agreed by such central and ultimate primary essence as the Absolute.

Intuition

1. Attention. The first sign of the genius of the artist or scientist is the extraordinary ability of attention and perception. “Genius is nothing more than continued attention” (Helvetius), “Genius is only attention” ( I.W. Goethe ).
2. Intuition. Genius is intuition (Ruben Dario).
3. Imagination. Imagination is the first quality of a genius (Delacroix). Geniuses are imagination, imaginative creative power (Ya. Golosovker).
4. Thinking. Genius is original, productive, problem and visual thinking (M. Mikhalko).
5. Experience and memory. Genius is rooted in perfection and vitality of memories (A. Schopenhauer). Genius is a memory (I.I. Lapshin).
The compilation of these characteristics serves as a transition, a bridge to structural-functional theories of genius. “So, the soul's ability, the combination of which (in a certain ratio) constitutes a genius, is imagination and reason” (I. Kant). The breadth of the mind, the power of imagination and the activity of the soul - this is what genius is (D. Diderot).
