Senile dementia

Lecture

The cause of dementia is not clear. Senile dementia has several forms: simple, confabulatory, delirious. This disease results from a progreduated atrophic process in the brain after 65 years.

In the behavior of the patient may be marked rudeness, callousness, suspicion, stinginess, isolation, pronounced self-centeredness. There are significant memory disorders, both mechanical and semantic. The curve of memorizing ten words is “plateau” (2-3 words). There is a violation of trace, reproduction. First, the memory of current events is disturbed, and then of past events.

Difficulties focusing attention. The level of the processes of generalization and distraction is reduced. Speech disorders are characterized by a decrease in vocabulary, verbosity, vagueness of speech, perseverations, agraphy, superficiality, loss of focus. There are aphasic disorders, agnosia, apraxia. With increasing painful symptoms, the circle of interests is narrowed down to eating, sleeping and sending natural needs.

Confabulatory form of the disease appears as a result of joining atherosclerosis to the atrophic process described above. Differs euphoria, fussiness, abundance of confabulations.
Delirious form is characterized by stupefaction. Occurs as a result of the addition of another disease that enhances the atrophic process.
